Windows 7 - Posted By Michael (wrighty) on 7th Apr 08 at 10:33am
Well it's coming! >.<

Does anyone other than me still think that XP > Vista? Vista isn't that amazing to be honest, it has frilly things that's all. It's over safety conscious. I like to hack my Registry among other things, and I know that even attempting it on Vista will perhaps force me to kick it.

Perhaps Vista will end up similar to ME (or was it 200?), with Microsoft disowning it. I think that's why they're forcing a new version out! ^_^

Thoughts?
Also, in further (older news) support for XP has been lengthened. Meaning Microsoft will continue to produce & sell XP to OEMs that want it. Which is good news because my mum has specified that her next computer CAN'T have Vista on it! {Tongue Out}

I don't see why people don't like Vista; it's much more user-friendly, more secure, has many new features, and in the 7 months I've owned a copy I've yet to have problems with it. {Unsure}

The fact that it's more secure I don't like. I'm not overly keen on the new look either. I guess I'm old school! {Tongue Out} But yea. XP is > Vista! {Tongue Out}

yeah, same here. I've been using my laptop which runs on Vista since last August and I've had no problems with it. It's basically the only computer I use, and since I'm a Computer Science student, I use it a lot. Almost all my programs work fine on it. I really don't see what everyone is complaining about...

The only problems I have ever seen Vista have is when you upgrade your computer from XP (or whatever) up to Vista. At first it works fine then problems start to arise left and right. I have had many different experiences from this. However if the computer was built specifically for it and came with it preinstalled, I have seen absolutley no problems with it that couldn't be quickly fixed.

Re: Windows 7 - Posted By Ross (admin) on 7th Apr 08 at 5:47pm
Someone I know is a designer and when he got his replacement machine with vista preinstalled I had to uninstall it all and put XP on instead for him. None of his mega expensive software packages would work on Vista and for him to buy all of their newest software would have cost over a £1000. Until everything is more compatible, I've no intention of "Upgrading". And I wouldn't be at all surprised if it ends up like Windows 2000 o.O

Re: Windows 7 - Posted By Marc (cr0w) on 7th Apr 08 at 7:38pm
It has nothing to do with compatibility on Vista's end, though. After every major update most programs don't work as they use different ways of making everything work. The problem is with companies not willing to spend the time to upgrade their software.

Wrighty, what don't you like about it being more secure? {Unsure}

So it's unreasonable to ask for things to be kept backwards compatible?

I've yet to find issues with Compatibility Mode? {Wink}

My freinds laptop runs in Vista its FTW!, he plays all his games on there, no problems, even the ones specifically for XP still runs and works better on Vista.

And what happened to 2000?

2000 was Microsoft's worst failure to date. The OS was discontinued I believe the same year it was released, and was replaced by Windows ME [which I still use on some old computers I have laying around.] {Wink}

Oh ok, well some class's at my school still use 2000, and they work just fine. or is it failure for customers on buying the OS?

Why do I have the feeling it's the other way around? I thought Windows ME was the one that failed so much (BSOD all over the place), and windows 2000 is fine. It's still widely used...

i love vista, ya it is buggy, but in time all bugs are fixed, but also i dont have many bugs maybe because i do have vista business, but i love a lot of the newer updates, and hell its so secure! my anti-virus expired so i removed it and yet i dont have any viruses at all! and as well it keeps your pc up to date at all times.

I known about Vienna for a while, one of the people I constantly work with was invited to ALPHA and BETA test it about two months back. It looks nifty, but it's sad in June that Windows XP is being taken off the shelves. But, sadly, the future is here, we have no choice but to follow it. Believe it or not, these computer manufactures and operating system operators have a large impact on our life.

Ya, Microsoft still ships Windows 2000 to non-profits.

Re: Windows 7 - Posted By Marc (cr0w) on 17th Apr 08 at 3:13am
Hmm, odd. I've had more problems with Windows 2000 than with Windows ME. {Unsure}

http://www.itworld.com/vista-driver-malfunction-080207 ... hope you're not blaming Microsoft/Vista for driver errors. <_<
http://keznews.com/4461_Top_6_Vista_Application_Incompatibility_Reasons ... or any other errors related to application failures. <_<

I remember hearing that Microsoft was nagging many, many companies, telling them that patches and drivers were needed because of Vistas new architecture/Windows new route, but loads of them didn't listen. {Tongue Out}

Re: Windows 7 - Posted By Nick (nickb) on 5th Jul 08 at 11:27pm
Ive had no problems with My Vista so far, as with my mom on her XP, loads of problems. Constantly crashing, screen freezing etc, ya know the usual. oh and slowness.

Re: Windows 7 - Posted By ashkir (ashkir) on 6th Jul 08 at 6:04am
There was once a time where people said Windows 98 was worse then Windows 95. There was once a time where people said Windows 2000 was worse then Windows 2000/NT. There was a time where people said XP was worse then Windows 98 and 2000/NT. Now here is the time where people say Vista is worse then XP.

The future is here. Deal with it. Microsoft owns the computer business; change is coming. Doesn't matter or not our programs are going to force us to update; businesses, schools, all will be forced to update as software is updated to support the new operating system.
