Firefox 3 Beta 5 Released - Posted By CåñåÐå™ (canada) on 4th Apr 08 at 1:59pm
Firefox 3 Beta 5 was released today in multiple languages. According to Mozilla, there have been 750 changes from the previous beta, improving stability and web compatibility, providing platform and user interface enhancements, and resulting in the fastest FireFox ever. Not only that, the 'memory leak' has been fixed, and Firefox now uses less memory than any other browser. This is according to Mozilla Developers. http://en-us.www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/3.0b5/releasenotes/

So far it seems to be way better than FF2 to me .

Is anyone else useing it ?

Yup I updated yesterday! {Tongue Out} (It's been out for a couple of days! {Tongue Out} )

I think it's better, definitely alot faster I think. Also less crashes than the previous beta.

I have noticed less hang time when starting it as well, which is good! ^_^

at least B5 renders select boxes correctly! B4 missed off one of the border lines (or all 4 at times!)

One thing that bugs me is the new auto-input completion. It's a good idea, but now rather than:

Type "s" -> Press down arrow on keyboard -> Hit enter [taken to VFS]

I have to do:

Type "supp" -> Press down arrow on keyboard -> Hit enter [taken to VFS]

Because it reads the "S" in "MSN.com" {Sad}

When is the actual FF3 come out? there have been Beta's, I am only going to use FF2 till FF3 comes out. its been like a half a year now, (6 months.) since they started the Beta's for FF3. {Tongue Out}

The full release will be out when the majority of bugs have been sorted out. {Wink}

Also, why not download the BETA releases? They don't replace your old Firefox, so if you don't like it or if something doesn't work you can just open the other Firefox. {Wink}

Ive tried to download it, it takes me to a different site, like for reviews I pressed CTRL F and put Download in the text bar, and it said it couldn't find it on that page, I even checked around my self, and still could not find it.

EDIT: Well I just found the actual download site {Tongue Out} {Cheesy}

I just wander if my Add ons will work in FF3 like Ad block, (which is disabled on all VForums) Faster Fox, Phish Tank SiteChecker, and Screen Grab. and as well as my Theme BlackJapanMAX.

EDIT: Well no they don't work {Sad}

The online add-on that I have that works is Download Statusbar {Unsure}

Re: Firefox 3 Beta 5 Released - Posted By Marc (cr0w) on 6th Apr 08 at 12:55am
Most add-ons for FF2 will not work with FF3 because they haven't been programmed for FF3 yet! {Tongue Out}

Re: Firefox 3 Beta 5 Released - Posted By Nick (nickb) on 6th Apr 08 at 1:05am
I even found that my {Forbidden}~{Reunion} Forum was lagging a bit, meaning every time i scrolled down or up it would show layers. Even VFS slowed down a bit, so I just removed FF3B5 and sticking with FF2 until they fix all the bugs.

Re: Firefox 3 Beta 5 Released - Posted By Marc (cr0w) on 6th Apr 08 at 1:13am
Every site I've tried so far runs faster in FF3 than in 2.0.0.13 {Unsure}

Re: Firefox 3 Beta 5 Released - Posted By Nick (nickb) on 6th Apr 08 at 1:19am
It may be just Faster Fox making my FF to run faster. Because any other browser I try to use like IE and Opera, seems to run slow, better yet everything on my computer runs slow {Tongue Out} besides FF2 {Cheesy}

Same here.

Also, has anyone been able to trick Firefox into running an extension that does not officially support b5? I was looking in the installation files on some of them, and they specify a max version, and for some of them it's b3 so I tried to get Firefox to install it, but I can't. I've tried downloading it, then changing it to 3.0b5 before restarting, but that doesn't work. I've also been looking for a file that lists all the extensions and either whether or not they work, or their max version, but I haven't been able to find it. I've also tried looking in each extension to see if there's a file that has a list of settings, but can't find one. If anyone knows how to do this, please tell me, as that's really the only thing that's keeping me from ditching FF2 altogether.

Agreed! ^_^

Is it just me, or does using going back and forward go a lot faster now?

They do work alot better now. I love the fact that you type anything into the address bar and it checks the title too. Amazingly useful feature. All they need to do is BUILD IN the quick dial that Opera has! {Smile}
