I know schools in the UK are getting report cards around this time, so I thought this would be a good conversation starter.![]()
At my school, we have two semesters. We get report cards halfway through each semester, as well as at the end. However, we don't get mid-term reports. Instead we get "Progress Report" slips from each class at mid-term; they're not very specific, but give you an idea of where you are. Mark options are: 80+, 70-79, 60-69, 50-59, Below 50 [fail].
Math: 70-79 (Seems low but it's quite high considering I have 4 major assignments that I have 0's on for not handing in yet.)
English: 80+
Computer Engineering: 80+
Guitar: 80+
How about you all?![]()
We don't physically get handed any grades on paper, as everything is posted online as we turn stuff in. We just get a final grade at the end of each semester which is the average of all our assignments and our final.
For all you non-Americans out there, here's how our grading system works:
Percent of Points Earned Grade 90% - 100% A 80% - 89% B 70% - 79% C 60% - 69% D 0% - 59% E (Fail)
Right now, I have....
German VI... A
Sociology... A
English... B (89.97%, with 5 grades left in the term)
C++/Computer Science... A
Ironically enough, the website to access our grades is down, otherwise I'd have the percentages for the other classes as well![]()
I wish I got E's. D:
We just started a new grading period so my grades are good, except in science. I just missed a few assignments and now I have a D, but I have awhile tog et it up.
I get my report card Friday for the last grading period though.
I got my grades before we went on brake.
I failed math, which is no surprise, math sucks.
Other than that I passed.
Math i dislike very much. Passed all the other subjects with c or better.
This semester I know I'll get straight A's considering all the courses are easy and I like them. This will, in turn, pull up my 70 average to about an 80.![]()
Heh, it's pretty funny, I had a 58 on my report card last semester and still pulled off an overall 70 average on it.![]()

I'm always told that I'm really intelligent, but have no initiative. What I lack is the motivation & understanding as to why I need to know the chemical formula of an ionic hydrocarbon compound for software development.![]()
uhhhhhhhhhh, sorry, I don't speak school.![]()

Hey thats how our system as well,
We get report cards, at the end of the year, but we get Mid term sheets from all 4 of our classes. Then our grades are 90-100 -A+ | 80-89 -C+ | 70-79 -D+ | 50 below F.
That is what I hate about all of school. I don't really know what I will be when I chose my life career, but I'm pretty certain that I'll never need to know math, or science. I hate the really useless Algebra stuff in math. Was someone insanely board and they just started making up stuff, and it came out to be math?
lol @ Anarch.
I know what I want to be already, I already knew What I wanted to be when I first touched a computer, at the age of 9, I wanted to be a web designer, and I am trying to full fill that dream.
I've considered it, but the only thing is there can be periods of time when you may not either be able to get clients or access the web or computer.
Ive already got some one wanting me to make them a website, and they will pay me top dollars meaning $400 a page, and 600 to keep it maintained monthly or weekly, and to keep everyone informed about their business. But I am not sure, I have to sign a contract, and I don't want to sign my life away just yet.
My grading system is very different from schools around me.
Grade Courses
Percentages Grade 91%-100% A 81%-90% B 70%-80% C 60%-69% D 0%-59% F (Fail)
Phys Ed (Pass/Fail)
Percentages Grade 75%-100% Pass (P) 0%-74% Fail (F)
Additionally, our teachers put comments on our report cards and progress reports. Example of comments:
- Commendable Attitude/Pleasure to have in class
- Shows interest and desire to learn
- Exhibits outstanding effort
- Participates in class discussion consistently
- Disruptive in class
- Does poorly on tests or quizzes
- Not working to potential
- Does not complete required work
- Improvement shown
We have four grading periods, which each consist of 45 days (so my school calls the grading periods "9-weeks"). We get a "progress report" at the mid-point of the grading period, and a report card at the end of the grading period. (The end of the 3rd period ends Monday).
I pretty much have B's in all my subjects, except Physics and American History in which I have a C in. I'm passing Phys Ed.

That's the exact same thing with me.
I also hate when teachers waste our time. My English teacher decided that it would be fun to be the Assistant Athletic Director this year, and he misses no less than 10 days of school a month, and when he's gone, we have to watch movies about the stupidest stuff. He's been gone all this week, and we're watching a 4-hour special from the 90's on Malcolm X. As much as I am fascinated by the fact that people were actually able to do something without violence, I don't care enough to waste 80 minutes a day watching movies on an Islamic extremist.
I heard about a couple school districts in Florida that had students declare "majors" during their Freshmen year... they were able to choose between Social Studies, English, Foreign Languages, Math, Science, and a couple other things. Then, they would only have to take one or two classes in the other subjects, and would focus in their "major." That's what I'd like to do.
I had A's and B's
but since I suck in everything but gym, digi tools (computers), and mechanics class, I probably have c's and a's in those classes.
