[Question for Ross] - Not Support - Posted By Samohtâ„¢ (goakyl) on 23rd Mar 08 at 6:51pm
What would you do if someone tried to hack vForums? Would you laugh in their face and grind them into dust? Do, please tell.

Someone has tried unsuccessfully. And to be honest it was a pretty poor effort. I'm not entirely sure what they thought it would achieve {Unsure} {Tongue Out}

If someone did manage to break in (although I'm sure there's enough security to block everyone apart from the most experienced hackers) then I'd take whatever actions necessary. These actions would depend on the hackers intent. For example if someone did it just to test the system, found a security hole and then told me about it then I'd cooperate with them to resolve the issue. However if it was done with malicious intent to bring down the service or steal information then legal action would need to be taken.

Nothing is un-hackable; I have a friend who works in the cyber-security department for PSC [Canada's equivalent of the NSA], and they know methods which can hack Microsoft's servers in less than 10 seconds.

But for all normal sitting-in-their-mom's-basement hackers, yeah, it'd probably be tough. {Tongue Out}

Knowing Ross and his coding skillz, we'd have a better chance of Aliens invading. VForums is practicly un-hackable. theres only a 1 in 100 chance VF will be hacked.

Psh, ya right.

I'm quite interested as to how you came up with 1 in 100?

And also how there's more than a 1 in 100 chance of aliens invading? {Tongue Out}

Tsk tsk tsk, always the questioning. {Tongue Out}

As Marc said, anything can be hacked if the person doing so wants to do it enough. If we've been "attempted" once, there's nothing stopping someone trying again.

Whell this thread is kinda oepn for questions to Ross and I don't wanna bug him in PM.

Is there a VF headquarters? or is it just your house? {Tongue Out}

Also, are there "behind the scenes Admins", or are you the only Admin?

Re: [Question for Ross] - Not Support - Posted By Graham (amusedtodeath) on 23rd Mar 08 at 7:49pm
Ah, so a kind of "ask the staff" thread? Fair enough {Smile}

Re: [Question for Ross] - Not Support - Posted By Tim (grievous) on 23rd Mar 08 at 7:50pm
Well, if we can have a "Ask The Staff" thread than why not make a fresh one with rules and such?

I just wanted to ask Ross thoes when I could.

That sounds like a good idea I suppose.
