Developer, Coder or Programmer - Posted By Ross (admin) on 11th Feb 08 at 6:27pm
Which of those 3 terms do you use to describe yourself. All 3 are very similar and most wouldn't consider there to be any differences between them but I think otherwise. So which do you think best describes what you do and why?

I would class myself as a developer as I spend a lot of time developing entire systems from start to finish and tend to get involved in every stage of the building process right from design to implementation. I know I'm definitely not a programmer since that tends to be more associated with writing executable programs which is something I know nothing about.

I tend to vary ...

Most people know me as a coder, coding websites, codes etc... However I used to be rather into my programming, granted only in VB..

Never thought of myself as a developer.

I would consider myself to be all of the above. {Tongue Out}

I like to code small things as add-ons to existing software, so that would be where I am merely a coder.

However, I also like to develop big projects that require weeks, or even months, of work. This would be where I am a developer.

As for programmer, I know a few programming languages, and especially like making 2d games. I don't really have an interest in 3d game design, as that would be more work than fun.

Depends on what I'm doing.

If I'm doing anything server side, I'm a programmer. If I'm doing anything client side, it's generally a coder.

When I'm doing both, I'm a developer.

At the moment I really on code so therefore a coder.

In the future, I plan to get much more serious and to learn a lot more. What I want to be is a programmer, although I don't know for what yet. I still have lots of time to decide. {Smile}

Hacker. {Cool} I prefer modifying software, not creating it.

But, if I must pick, I'd be a developer.
