I'm sure many of you will have noticed that your vForum may not have been running as fast recently as it used to. I blame the 30,000 registered users across the 6,000 forums we are now hosting {Cool}

We have sourced and are intending to move all forums to a brand new server. Which (based on testing so far) should be more than capable of handling whatever you throw at it {Wink} We're talking about something with 3x the RAM of the current server and 6x the storage space!

The plan for implementing this is as follows:

I'm looking forward to it, I hope you are too {Grin}
- Ross

Update: Tomorrow (Tuesday 25th January) at around 1:30 GMT we will transfer all forums using the vforums.us domain name as their primary address. There should be no downtime during this procedure.

Update: Today (Monday 28th February) the DNS changes for the main vforums.co.uk domain have been made. 99% of forums using this domain have already had their databases transferred to the new server. The rest will be completed shortly.

After the hours & pain setting it up, I'd rather not {Tongue Out}

A couple of teething problems (mainly due to DNS fail, although that was mainly the fault of the person changing the records - me {Lips Sealed} ) but this support forum is now running on the new server {Smile}

Could take a few hours for everyones DNS to update.

I'm guessing that's the reason for most of the images on VFS not appearing, haha. Hopefully everything's back to normal by the morning. {Smile}

I had issue's with iDirectory Support forum not wanting to load, and the API being down just for iDirectory. iHosting in this case, was working 100% though. iD is working fine now, and there are no issues. {Smile}

This support forum is the only one to be moved so far.

Update: Tomorrow (Tuesday 25th January) at around 1:30 GMT we will transfer all forums using the vforums.us domain name as their primary address to this new server. There should be no downtime during this procedure.

Re: New Hosting! - Posted By Ross (admin) on 25th Jan 11 at 4:33pm
Have just finished the transfer for everyone who use a vforums URL ending in "vforums.us"
Took a lot longer than expected and hit a few issues along the way. But hopefully that means the rest will be a lot smoother.

Will announce the date for moving the rest when I have it {Wink}

Re: New Hosting! - Posted By Ross (admin) on 20th Feb 11 at 11:23pm
Looks like everything will finish getting moved over this week. There's less than 500 forum databases still to be transferred. On the down side, some of these are the larger forums which I was leaving to last {Lips Sealed}

Will post more updates when we're ready to disable new signups and make the DNS changes {Smile}

New host has a great increase in speed {Smile} , thanks and keep up the good work! {Cheesy}

Re: New Hosting! - Posted By Ross (admin) on 28th Feb 11 at 12:05am
Last forums are now being processed & transferred to the new server. DNS changes have been submitted and should take affect within the next few hours.

Let us know of any problems you come across {Smile} (not that there should be any {Wink} )

Update: All forum databases have transferred. Tomorrow we will begin the process of moving over the remaining parts of the website & other infrastructure.
