Version 2.1: Sort Topics and More to Follow - Posted By Ross (admin) on 15th Dec 09 at 12:01pm
A few moments ago we updated all forums to the latest version of our software. The majority of the changes we made have been behind the scenes to improve performance and make some cool new functionality possible in the very near future {Wink}

Although for those of you after some instant gratification we do have one new feature live {Grin} You can now change the order which topics are listed in, great if you want to find the most popular topics in a board or find what other topics someone has made. To do this, just click the "Search" button while viewing a board, along side the standard search form will be a "Sort Topics" form where you can choose options such as subject, author, replies and more.

More to follow in the next few days, just waiting for things to be finalised {Cool}

Update: You can now set the topic sort order on a per-board basis. There's a few applications for this such as directory / index type boards. I'm sure people will find uses for it.

To use, just go to "Create" or "Modify" a board and see the "Sort Topics By" options towards the bottom of the page. Enjoy

P.S. We are now using twitter to post announcements on new features. So you can follow us on there if you want to keep up to date with what is happening {Smile} http://twitter.com/vforums

Updates no longer have a single second of downtime {Cool}

I've put a new redirect on there so that it redirects here, although that domain is quite out-dated now. We're in the process of changing the way the multi-domain set-up works. The first part of that was changing the way the redirects are handled, I had updated most of the ones which had a preference set apart from support.

Yes, they will be integrated with the API eventually. However there is another part of this which I want to write and implement first (related to a feature you suggested {Wink} )

But the goodies keep on coming - it must be Christmas or something {Grin}

What suggestion, I think i've made quiet a bit over time (Adding to the list: Allowing only sticky threads to be called in the API would be great to add as well for those who have a new board in a public area discussion area) {Tongue Out}

Oh and the Sort Topics by Board can come in great use, thanks.

Whoa! I just noticed the new format for the threads, because I was just looking at my forum, the flipped back over to vFS, and that's when I noticed the time/date for threads, were in a different place. I think the way you have the new way is ALLOT better than the old way! {Grin}

The sort option would be helpful for archive boards or first come first serve type of boards (oldest at top)

I believe there is a way to just call stickies, probably undocumented through {Lips Sealed} I'll update the source file and put up an announcement about it over in the API section.

As for which suggestion, that'd be spoiling the surprise {Wink} It's a recent one to do with custom profile fields {Shocked}
