A completely customised chatroom system has been developed especially for integration with the vForums software. This chatroom features things like automatic user recognition, multiple rooms, active users, staff powers, UBBC, smilies and auto-reload. That's just to mention of few of the features.

Unfortunately this chatroom is not quite ready for release on all forums yet but has been integrated into this forum so that we can test the system, monitor server usage and give you all a chance to play with it!

Marc developed the system and together we've spent many hours getting it to this stage. So be sure to thank him for all of his work. He's done a great job on bringing us a fantastic feature. Over the next week or so we should be able to bring you some details on the final functionality of this system.

If you find any issues with the chatroom, please make sure you report it in the Chatroom Bugs board

Also post in the Chatroom Bugs board if you find this or other forums are going significantly slower than usual, as at this time it is most likely due to resource usage by the chatroom.

og a general ETA set for release?

As far as I know, progress is smooth at the moment, unless if Ross has run into a problem. I've got a few bugs to work out, as well as a few things I'd like to add, but I don't think it will take too long. The biggest thing left to do is setup a caching system.

I don't have a set release date, but I think a few weeks at most. I was sick over the weekend and have midterms all this week so I haven't really been online much, but I plan on getting reacquainted with the chatroom soon and getting some stuff done.

AH!!!! when is it coming oout, i have been looking forward for this for a while now and yet nothing! and i'm not the only one waiting so are a lot of my members!!!!!! please hurry or at least post a date, at one point a long time ago it was said be even be released in about two weeks and this was bout 3 weeks after being announced of what it was.

Unfortunately I've been quite busy with school and general life, so I have not had much time to focus on the chatroom. However, seeing as I only have one test on Monday and half of my band is in Toronto for the weekend, this weekend should be open enough for me to get some progress made on it.

At the moment I think the only thing holding us back is the caching system, which I almost had completed, but JavaScript was changing things for no reason. I'll have a closer look at it soon, and give you an update when I've made progress.

A week at the very very least - perhaps 2... Depends on when Ross thinks it's ready. Perhaps it'll be released alongside other new features!

hmm i have heard that before, hell i was told it was going to be released to the API system a long while ago so its just a wait and see thing i guess...

I have no idea on release times, I can say though, that it wont be for a while. There are more features coming too!

The chat and API features have never been intended to interact with one another. Or do you mean something else?

I was just wondering once the chat is ready for release, will there be an area so we will be able to post rules for it ?

I'm not sure if Ross plans on adding a "Chatroom Headers/Footers" section, but if not I'll be sure to code something up and stick it in the database.

I wasn't meaning they would interact, Marc told me awhile ago that they should be released around the same time, that what i was meaning

Sorry to dig this topic out, but I am wondering what is the status of this Chat?
I cant find any post related to this topic younger than I think July 2010, even I saw a post from Marc VChats Developper date April 2011.
Is this Chat tool available and where?

A chat room (or many) would be great in our forum, and would replace Skype. At the same time we would get a common tool for both features Forum and Chat.

When is this chat coming back? and a possible Shout Box integration would be nice too. Future features? I hope so!

The last time i spoke to Marc, it was a case of when he has time from work - hopefully it'll be soon though

I last spoke to Ross about it a few months back (I'd created a similar, more lightweight version for a personal project), and at the time he said the server would likely not be able to handle the added load. I've not heard anything since, so probably best to wait for Ross' response in terms of what the servers can handle right now.

Since the server switchover I don't think that should be a problem anymore.
Will have to sort out testing it at some point
