The new Private Conversations feature (which will be replacing Private Messaging) has been implemented on this support forum. This will be used as a beta test of the new features and functionality to highlight any bugs or issues which may still exist and to get them fixed before this upgrade is rolled out to all forums.
The main changes with this upgrade are:
- Rather than sending single messages to single users you can have conversations with groups of users.
These conversations function in a very similar way to topics.
- You can invite new users to join an existing conversation
- You can label & search conversations
- You can modify sent messages
- You can download a backup of all/select messages
If you find any bugs with these new features, please make use of the bugs board. Any comments/queries may be posted in this topic

Good job ross
first decent thing on vF<--- Only joking
You know I like it! ^_^
I'll go test for more bugs though!
^_^ looks cool, Ross
Yea, it is cool i am having one with wrighty now
Quite sexy, I like it.
Would it be possible to have a way to select pre-existing tags, when adding tags to a conversation?
And does someone have to approve their addition to a conversation before they're actually added?

When adding labels you will be given the choice of entering a new name or selecting from your existing labels. The only exception to this is that it will not allow you to pick a label which did not exist before the current page load.
Users do not have the ability to decline their addition to a conversation but they can choose to leave it at any point.
I was just wondering, because I added someone (slip, to be specific) to a conversation, and he wasn't added. xD
I'm on Firefox 3 Beta 5 on Mandriva Linux, if you need that info.

Can I ask for the conversation ID? (The number in the URL after /pm/)
733.
It's actually between me and you. ^_^
~Artemis
OK, that issue is now fixed
Yup.
But (not to nit-pick) the list isn't updated when a new user is added.
And if you remove someone, the list clears, but doesn't actually remove them (seen by refreshing or going back to the page).
Sorry, I'll quick poking soon.

The new user is added to the list in both IE7 and Fx2.
There was a bug stopping removing users from working. However this now works in both IE7 and Fx2.
i have to say i really find the new system confusing and when you implement i would suggest making it the admins option to use the new pm system, because i find it to confusing and not many of muy members will like it...

Reverting back to the old system as well as the new one would put a great amount of strain on the server, and would pretty much downtrot the system Ross has worked quite hard on these past few weeks.
If members have trouble with it, they need simply ask for help.
There's always a learning curve to new technology.
I feel this technology is worth the learning curve.
Simple as that.

Been meaning to take a look at this myself, but only have a moment of free time right now.
How does this change affect the PM "Ignore List" ? Will users receive an error stating "User X cannot be added due the conversation due to Ignore List contradictions with another user in this conversation." or has the list been trashed, so to speak?
*Just broke FF3 B5 by hitting random keys*
This change is being implemented based on user suggestions. And one of the things users wanted to see was to have messages acting more like topics so you can keep track of all replies. Obviously it's not possible to implement a change that everyone will love, but this is something the majority of users will find useful. Before the system is launched to all forums a FAQ will be posted detailing the changes and how the new system works.

I'll need to double check this, but I believe that users on your ignore list can participate in the same conversations as you. However only via a 3rd person. So for example, Bob and James are having a conversation. Bob is on Sams ignore list. So Bob cannot invite Sam into the conversation. However James can invite Sam.
Sounds like a plan, thanks Ross.
@Ross i mean like the buttons and everything are confusing, couldn't you have normal messages allowed as well or at least keep the buttons the same, really thats whats annoying trying to figure out what the hell does what, like it took me a bit to finf the delete button, other then minor stuff like that is a great setup.

The very first time you went to a forum, you were surely confused about what does what and where to go. Rather than asking the owners to change their system, you went ahead and became familiar with it. I see this as the same principle; a well-known system has been upgraded, so we should take the time to learn how to use it.
And as Ross said, there will be an FAQ posted for it detailing how each new feature works.
Oh, but Ross, can we has option to sort by either time created or last reply?
Very very unique from the PM system that most forum have. It might take awhile for some members to get used to it though.
Good job Ross!
Whoo, our idea has come to fruition. *dance*
